STREET ART: THE INTERSECTION OF VISUAL ART & HIP HOP
FROM FAB 5 FREDDY, KEITH HARING, TO ANDY WARHOL & BASQUIAT PAVING THE WAY ON HOW WE VIEW ART. CAPTURING THE AESTHETICS OF THEIR TIME THROUGH MESSAGING AND IMAGERY, FEATURED POP ART AND GRAFFITI STYLED PAINTINGS.
A MODERN HISTORIAN WITH A PAINTBRUSH, HER CANVAS WORK HAS EVOLVED ALONG WITH HER PASSION FOR THE HIP HOP CULTURE. GROWING UP IN A CARIBBEAN HOUSEHOLD, ART WAS NOT AN OPTION, BUT SHE REMAINED PERSISTENT IN HER CRAFT. IT WAS EMBEDDED THAT SHE GET AN EDUCATION AND SETTLE INTO A NICE PAYING JOB BUT ICE COULDN’T IMAGE A PATH THAT LACKED THE FREEDOM OF CREATION, THUS SETTING OUT IN CHANGING THE NARRATIVE OF BUILDING WEALTH THROUGH ART FOR CARIBBEAN ARTISTS. LUCKILY THAT SAME NARRATIVE HAS ALSO CHANGED WITHIN HIP HOP CULTURE TODAY AS MORE ARTISTS INVEST IN FINE ART AND CAN APPRECIATE THE CRAFT.
